The Eurovision 2024 season is beginning to heat up. Over the course of the next few months, we will all fall in and out of love with scores of new national final and Eurovision entries. But that doesn’t mean we forget about the artists from past contests.
Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.

New music from Eurovision artists: 2023 | Week 49
Elastinen feat. Käärijä – “Toiset samanlaiset”
We all remember this year’s beloved representative of Finland, Käärijä, who showed us that life “is crazy, is party.” He now has a new collaboration with the Finnish rapper Elastinen, and their latest song is titled “Others of the Same Kind.” The track is energetic, exuding a dark allure, and it packs a powerful punch with a hint of madness, seamlessly combining the distinctive styles of both singers. The lyrics speak about gaining success: “As long as I get everything, I don’t need much/ It’s a unique everyday life.” The duo storms in like thunder, surprising fans and leaving them eagerly anticipating an upcoming music video.
LOBODA – “Метелица”
LOBODA represented Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009. The title of her latest song is inspired by the character Mrs. Metelitsa from folk stories, reminiscent of Mistress Blizzard from the Brothers Grimm’s tales. The song is enchanting, and LOBODA captivates in the accompanying live video, portraying a flawless winter queen. She released the song at the beginning of the winter holidays in Ukraine. The lyrics delve into the theme of falling out of love after consistent disappointments, expressing the sentiment of raising one’s hopes only to see love extinguish like a match: “A blizzard outside the window/ And you can’t believe it/ That we do not stick/ And love, like a match, went out in smoke.” Together with the song, LOBODA left a heartfelt message for her fans:
“Sometimes the light of festive garlands only illuminates the emptiness of our hearts more brightly… I want you to remember that happiness is from within. And someday each of us will definitely meet a person who will be worth all the lonely evenings… The main thing is to believe.”
Artie 5ive & Rondodasosa feat. Achille Lauro & Dessy – “CRISI D’ASTINENZA”
For rap music enthusiasts, the next song is an ideal choice. Achille Lauro represented San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022. His latest track is a collaboration with various artists: Artie 5ive, Rondodasosa, and Dessy. The song’s title can be translated as “ABSTINENCE CRISIS.” It masterfully combines diverse rap voices, with Achille’s distinctive tone easily standing out. The song aptly captures the essence of loneliness, as reflected in Achille’s lyrics: “Yes, look, it doesn’t matter/ Yes, there is nothing at home/ Yes, grown up with nothing, truly alone/ Withdrawal, ah/ Oh God, I’m in the wrong place/ We are alone in the world, abandoned below/ And my heart is just dust.”
Sara Jo – “Tako hodam”
Sara Jo was a member of the trio Moje 3 that represented Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013. In her latest single, “That’s how I walk,” there are strong vibes of Madonna’s “Vogue.” The music video exudes the ambiance of a fashion show, both backstage and runway, with Sara showcasing stunning and captivating looks. The lyrics of this retro pop hit convey a message of confidence, effectively serving as a confidence booster with lines like, “They say I have an arrogant attitude/ That’s how I walk!” Additionally, there are small Italian inserts in the lyrics, possibly paying homage to the country in which Sara was born.
Charlotte Perrelli – “I’m Beginning To See The Light”
Charlotte represented Sweden at Eurovision on two occasions, even winning in 1999. Her latest track exudes a retro and festive vibe, providing warmth during the cold season. It’s a cover of the famous song by Ella Fitzgerald, originally released in 1945, delivering jazzy vibes. This song will be part of Charlotte’s upcoming album, scheduled for release next spring, featuring an orchestral arrangement. “I never cared much for moonlit skies/ I never wink back at fireflies/ But now that the stars are in your eyes/ I’m beginning to see the light.” We have here a love song that is already well-known and adored by many.
Douwe Bob – “Chase My Heart Away (Hero)”
Douwe Bob, who represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016, has released a new charity song. The purpose of this song is to raise funds for ALS Nederland, an association dedicated to assisting people suffering from sclerosis. The track is a lovely acoustic piece that will be included in Douwe’s upcoming album, Where Did All The Cool Kids Go?, scheduled for release on Valentine’s Day in 2024. This song is particularly significant as it follows Douwe’s brief hiatus to address his alcohol dependency. It serves as an encouragement for those in need of help, offering comfort with lyrics like, “I’ll be your hero/ I’ll be the one to make a change/ You feel like a zero/ I’ll be the one to save the day/ You’ll never chase my heart away/ Chase my heart away/ My heart away.”
Konstrakta & Zemlja gruva – “O, Klasje moje”
Konstrakta’s success is on the rise after representing Serbia in Eurovision 2022. She has unveiled a new series titled Lektizer, specifically created for the RTS school program, set to be broadcast next spring. Her latest song features a collaboration with the group Zemlja gruva and stands out for its remarkable promotion of literature and traditional sound . The lyrics of the track are attributed to the poet Aleksa Šantić, with Konstrakta lending her voice to the poem “Oh my wheat.” The verses paint a vivid picture of rural life and emotions, as seen in lines like, “Soon there will be harvest… wheat ripens under the knoll/ My village shimmers in the sun/ But an ominous cloud hovers over the forehead of mine/ And thunder strikes the very deepest of my soul.” The lyrics are rich with metaphors, drawing associations between elements of rural life and profound emotions. About the background of this song, Konstrakta said:
“We made a song for the school program, based on the text written in 1910 by Aleksa Santic, a poet from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The poem describes the difficult position of the peasants, and I believe that this topic is always relevant.”
Lord Of The Lost feat. Anica Russo – “(I Just) Died In Your Arms”
Lord Of The Lost represented Germany in this year’s Eurovision and has recently released a collaboration with Anica Russo, a previous finalist in the national selection for Eurovision in Germany. Their latest release is a remake of the song “(I Just) Died In Your Arms,” originally released by the English rock band Cutting Crew in 1986. The remake prominently features Lord Of The Lost’s distinctive rock style. As a culmination to their successful year, the band is set to release a covers album on 29 December.
Rain Diary feat. Chris Harms – “You & I”
Speaking of Lord Of The Lost, their lead vocalist Chris Harms also has a solo project, specifically a collaboration with the Finnish rock band Rain Diary. The song reflects Rain Diary’s signature style, characterized by synth rock, which infuses the rock track with elements of new wave and pop. The overall vibe of the song carries a 70’s rock influence. The vocals, featuring Chris’ powerful voice, blend seamlessly with the music. This collaboration results in a delightful love rock track, with the predominant line in the chorus being “Don’t wanna lose you baby.”
Lea Sirk – “S Tabo Se Začne”
A beautiful self-love song also comes from Lea Sirk, who proudly represented Slovenia in 2018. The title of her new track is “It Starts With You.” The song is brimming with warmth and love. Lea exudes confidence, as evident in her new music video. The lyrics offer comfort, resembling a letter written to oneself. They convey the message of finding a home, a place where you belong, and emphasise the importance of being your own role model despite life’s challenges: “Life leads up and down/ Better be your own role model/ That’s all it is/ Everything starts with you.” The song concludes beautifully with the lyrics: “It’s life/ From tears to a fairy tale/ Everything starts with you today/ It starts with you.”
Evgeny Genchev feat. VICTORIA – “Хубава си, моя горо”
VICTORIA made Bulgaria proud in 2021, after previously being selected to represent her country in 2020 when the contest was cancelled due to the pandemic. The Bulgarian star delivered an exceptional performance with a captivating ballad, collaborating with pianist Evgeny Genchev. Titled “You’re Beautiful, My Dear,” the song is a soul-touching masterpiece, highlighting Evgeny’s incredible piano skills and VICTORIA’s sweet vocals. The music video will leave you speechless, featuring breath-taking scenery and a remarkable performance by VICTORIA and Evgeny at a considerable height.
Kaiti Garbi – “Savvato Vrady”
Kaiti is Greece’s representative of 1993. The Greek artist comes with an energetic tune rooted in traditional music, resulting in a banger that will make you move without even realising. Actually, as the title of the song is “Saturday Night,” the song really inspires you to dance, party and feel good. The lyrics speak about going for a Saturday night out after being betrayed: “Saturday night, I turn off again/ I drink, I drink, I drink, I drink/ Saturday night, you’ve done me wrong/ Don’t mess with my mind/ I won’t let you go.”
Anna Sahlene – “These Tears”
Anna is the Swedish singer who competed for Estonia in 2002. Her new track is sweet and captures the vibe of the late ’90s and early ’00s. The lyrics revolve around crying over someone who has caused pain: “One of these tears’/ Telling you/ I’m not gonna love this way no more.” The song is definitely a must-add to your playlists.
Ann Sophie – “I Love It!”
Ann Sophie shares a powerful message about starting anew and embracing self-love in her latest song. The pop track is truly captivating, featuring Ann’s enchanting vocals expressing her desire to be true to herself. Accompanied by a music video that feels like a dance through life, the lyrics of her song convey: “Always thought I needed help/ Nobody got just how I felt/ Not really sure of who I wanna be/ But good things take their time/ And the truth is still inside me/ I already feel it/ The fire is burning/ I have been waiting/ For my moment to come/ I am excited I live it, I did it, I’m in it, I get it, I love it!/ I love it!” About her new song, Ann says:
“This song is a personal confession and dedication to self love. It talks about trauma and healing but most of all, it talks about the excitement of being yourself. I hope this song opens your heart and guides you on your path. & I hope that you LOVE IT!”
Anxhela Peristeri & Vedat Ademi – “1960”
Anxhela competed at the Eurovision Song Contest for Albania in 2021. Her latest track is a collaboration with Vedat Ademi, aiming to transport listeners back to the ’60s. The ballad carries traces of traditional Albanian influences, and Anxhela’s emotive voice adds depth to the composition. In the music video, which you can watch here, both artists assume roles reminiscent of characters from 60’s movies, illustrating that love perseveres in every era. The song’s lyrics pose questions about a relationship in turmoil: “You didn’t kiss my lips/ The night we killed the soul/ What else are you looking for?/ Did we leave it in the middle?” Despite the uncertainty in the lyrics, the conclusion of the music video leaves viewers with a sense of optimism. Anxhela said about their new song:
“Finally, the newest ballad that will accompany you throughout the winter. Together with the fantastic voice of Vedat Ademi, we decide to take you back in time, to the ’60s, where love had another spirit. If you will remember your old loves, it is good, but if after the song you will kiss your love, it is even better. I hope that together with Vedat Adam, we will make your winter even more romantic.”
Albina Kelmendi – “N’ball te Arberit”
We stay in Albania with the next song, which comes from this year’s representative, Albina Kelmendi. She proudly participated in Eurovision together with her family. In the music video for her new track, you can still catch a glimpse of some members of her family. The song is a traditional Albanian piece titled “In Front of Arbanon,” with Arbanon referring to a principality that existed in Albania. The track beautifully highlights Albina’s vocal prowess, showcasing the rich musical heritage of Albania.
AISEL – “Gəl”
AISEL represented Azerbaijan in 2018, and her latest song is titled “Come.” The track stands out with its serene sound complemented by profound lyrics, creating a contrast of intricate simplicity that makes the overall experience enchanting. The music video predominantly features the colour white, directing our attention even more towards AISEL. The delicate lyrics convey a powerful message: “Come, my voice breaks/ Come, I have tears in my eyes/ Come, as if one lifetime is not enough/ As I go after you/ I loved you gently.” Despite their gentleness, the lyrics manage to capture profound emotions.
Max Mutzke – “Überall Herzen”
We fondly recall Max, as he represented Germany in 2004. In his latest track, he invites us into the studio with a delightful tune titled “Hearts Everywhere.” Max’s voice continues to captivate us with its greatness and distinctive style, imprinting his signature sound on the song. Notably, the track is released in collaboration with the health assurance company AOK Hessen.
Ycare feat. Slimane – “Je reste, tu continues”
And for the final song, we have a collaboration between Ycare and the artist set to represent France in Eurovision 2024, Slimane. The ballad, titled “I’m Staying, You Continue,” seamlessly blends their voices with a graceful sound. This song is featured on Ycare’s new album, Nos Futurs.
