Bulgaria: Will Poli Genova return to Eurovision in 2024?

Posted on 17 November 2023 By Admin No Comments on Bulgaria: Will Poli Genova return to Eurovision in 2024?

Bulgaria withdrew from Eurovision following the 2022 contest in Turin. During their last participation, the ageing rock band Intelligent Music Project finished 16th in the semi-final with “Intention.”

In the aftermath of that, Bulgaria’s official Eurovision account had a bit of a meltdown, said the broadcaster no longer had any interest in Eurovision, unfollowed everyone on its list and then deleted all of its tweets.

But two days ago that same account shared the news that “United By Music” would be the permanent Eurovision slogan before stating that “performers from nearly 41 countries share the values of the competition every year.” That’s a very specific number. It almost sounds like Bulgaria is counting itself in. Could Bulgaria be planning a return to Eurovision?

Bulgaria: Will Poli Genova return to Eurovision in 2024?

Well, we’ve got some more fuel for the fire.

On Thursday we were in Sofia, Bulgaria celebrating the release of Poli Genova’s new album “Last Night.” We had a quick kiki with the Eurovision 2011 and 2016 star backstage and asked whether she was ready to make her return to the competition.

As you’ll recall, when Eurovision was last held in Sweden she competed and came fourth.

When asked if she would like to return, Poli told us: “The moment I have the green light I’m going to do it.” She punctuated that with a laugh, as you can see in the excerpt below.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Poli has stated she’s ready to get back on the ESC stage. Before Bulgaria had time to lick its wounds in Turin, she told me that she had plans to meet with Bulgaria’s state broadcaster to present them with her Eurovision proposal.

As we all know now, that didn’t work out and Bulgaria withdrew. But that was then and Poli Genova is always now. Is it possible her plan is finally coming to fruition?

Let us know what you’re thinking down below…
