Greece chooses Marina Satti for Eurovision 2024

Posted on 24 October 2023 By Admin No Comments on Greece chooses Marina Satti for Eurovision 2024

Eurovision 2024 now has its third confirmed act, with Greek broadcaster ERT selecting Marina Satti to represent the country in Malmö next year. Marina has the honour of representing Greece on the 50th anniversary of the country’s first Eurovision participation in 1974.

The announcement was made during the TV programme Studio 4 on Tuesday.

Now that Greece has their artist, the attention turns to Marina’s song, which has not yet been chosen.

Those interested in composing the entry will be able to submit their proposals from 25 October. Songs must be in line with the rules of Eurovision and can be sent to ERT via email: [email protected]

Who is Marina Satti?

Marina was born in Athens to a Greek mother and a Sudanese Arab father, but was raised on Crete. The star’s music incorporates the different styles of her heritage, blending Greek, Arab and Balkan elements together.

She’s already proven that her music has crossover appeal. Her 2016 single “Koupes” (“Cups”) has racked up more than 27 million views on YouTube and was included on Ravin & Bob Sinclar’s Buddha Bar 20 Years Anniversary album.

Her 2017 hit “Mantissa” (“Seeress”) made the European Union’s Official Top 100 and Bulgaria’s Top 40. Critics wrote that it was a “summer hit that fills a generation with hope.”

Marina’s debut album, YENNA, was released in 2022 to further critical acclaim.

Satti also has a history in jazz music, having represented Greece in the EBU’s Euroradio Jazz Orchestra, and performing with the World Jazz Nonetat at the John F. Kennedy Centre in Washington.

On top of all that, Marina also founded the all-female a cappella group Fonés. They’ve performed world music and pop compositions across Greece and even toured Europe.

It’s fair to say that there are a lot of exciting ways in which Marina’s song for Eurovision 2024 could go.

Marina Satti was chosen by wiwiblogger Jordi as part of our previous wish list series for Greece. At the time, he wrote:

“Well we know that Greece has properly served Eurovision pleasure throughout its history: from Helena Paparizou to Eleftheria Eleftheriou to Sakis Rouvas, long live the Greek gods and goddesses. But since 2014, the Mediterranean nation’s performance in the contest has been in a consistent decline. Marina Satti has the modern flare and essence needed to make it big at Eurovision and stop the rot. Both traditional and contemporary sounds join Marina’s soul in her artistic attitude and music. Her hit ‘Mantissa’ is the perfect taste of a pleasant upbeat mixture of Greek traditional rhythms and Bollywood elements. Described as the Greek-Sudanese emerging star who represents hope, Marina studies at Boston’s Berklee Music College and collaborates with international and domestic music industry stars. She’s managed to break away from the crowd, provoke reactions and build bridges with people of all ages – her video hit five million streams in just one week. Eurovision? ‘I’m not ready, but it can be done in the future”’ Wooho! The world needs your attitude and swagger!”

We’re glad to say Marina is now ready to take to the Eurovision stage!

What do you think about Marina Satti? Do you love her international sound and will it go down well at Eurovision? Let us know down below….
