Who are KAJ?
KAJ are a Finnish comedy trio, hailing from the west coast of Finland, in the Swedish-speaking town of Vörå. They met through playing football initially, and then connected again via motorcross sports. The group of friends went on to strengthen their bond at school, becoming the group they are now in 2009. They have gone on to have huge success at home, having written two musicals: Gambämark and Botnia Paradise. KAJ won plenty of awards for this, and went on to be recognised for their promotion of Finnish-Swedish dialects.
The trio were offered to chance to submit an entry for Melodifestivalen 2025, which they took gladly. What the group didn’t expect is the results! Having started off as dead-last with the bookies, as soon as Swedes heard their entry “Bara Bada Bastu” (“Just Bathe in the Sauna”) they went wild for it. Millions of streams came raking in, and the boys were on the rise. Suddenly, it looked like they could really do something in the final, with a bolt-on winner from Eurovision 2015 winner Måns Zelmerlöw looking less certain.
In the final, KAJ ended up triumphing, possibly due to higher jury points than expected. However this wasn’t the only element that was colossal. They recieved the highest amount of votes in the history of Melodifestivalen! Their total of 164 points was enough to beat Måns handily, and now Sweden will send their first entry in the Swedish language since 1998. Quite remarkable work from KAJ there, hey? They now have nearly 20 million streams already.
