Melody: 10 Facts about Spain’s Eurovision 2025 singer

Posted on 19 March 2025 By Admin No Comments on Melody: 10 Facts about Spain’s Eurovision 2025 singer

Spain has found their diva, and they’re ready to take Melody to Eurovision 2025 in Basel, with her grand number “Esa Diva”!

Melody competed in the Spanish National Final, Benidorm Fest, quickly becoming a fan favorite, and effortlessly taking the title with a ton of public support.

But who is Melody? Well, here are some facts that’ll shine a light on the great, storied career of this diva!

Spain at Eurovision 2025: 10 Facts about Melody

1. A dedicated musician since an early age

Melodía Ruiz Gutiérrez seemed destined for music ever since she was born. The daughter of Lorenzo Ruiz Molina from Los Kiyos, she started early with music and dance. Not only was she studying guitar, piano, and vocals, but also made choreography for her father’s group as early as six years old.

2. The one she owes it all to

After her father sent a demo reel of her singing and dancing, producer El Fary was so impressed he convinced the family to fly to Madrid to be her tutor and to record her first album. At the age of 10, she released De Pata Negra, her debut to the world.

3. A worldwide hit

Her first ever single and MV, “El Baile del Gorila”, took the world by storm positioning itself at the top of the charts in Spain and Latin America, becoming a staple hit song compared to other legendary hits like “La Macarena” and “Aserejé”. An enormously popular song still referenced to this day.

4. A young record breaker

Following the release of the also renowned single “De Pata Negra”, Melody became the first ever Spanish single to reach a double platinum record in Spain and a platinum record in the US. All of that at just 10 years old!

5. Working with the top Spanish artists

Her youth didn’t deter other top caliber Spanish artists to collaborate with the singer, who formed part of several large collaborative projects with the likes of Rocío Jurado, Alaska, Pastora Soler, María Pelae, Gloria Estefan, Gilberto Santa Rosa, and many more.

6. An outlandish rumour

Starting around 2005, when she had taken a break from public life, a popular urban legend arose in the Spanish-speaking world, that had everyone saying the singer had passed away, with different versions of the facts going around each time and adding to the intrigue. Truth fo the matter, she was focusing on her studies, and dispelled all rumours after releasing her album “Los Buenos Días” in 2008.

7. A charitable soul

From world hunger to women suffering from domestic violence, Melody has supported countless causes. She has led her presence and talents to charity galas, compilation albums, and NGO’s all over her illustrious career, such as La Fundación Niemann-Pick de España and the Ángeles Malagueños de la Noche.

8. A TV staple

Melody has also led her talents into the TV screens all over Spain. From featuring in the popular television series ‘Cuentame como pasó’ to the award-winning ‘Arde Madrid’ and the popular comedy film ‘Ahora o Nunca’.

9. A proud resident of Malaga

A longtime resident of Costa Del Sol, she has gone lengths praising the southern Spanish city of Malaga, living there with her husband and son, featuring in citywide public events, and more. “Malaga is a place that is already in my heart, I have my family here, I feel so good here.”

10. Had attempted her luck at Eurovision before

Eurovision is not a recent foray of Melody’s. The singer was featured in the Spanish national final in 2009, where she actually tied for first place, but the public tiebreaker favored Soraya’s ‘La Noche Es Para Mi’. But now, a storied performer with many more years of experience, she’s more than ready to tackle the big contest all those years later, taking ‘Esa Diva’ to Basel!
