Netherlands: AVROTROS will decide Eurovision 2025 participation by November 1, following EBU deadline extension

Posted on 12 September 2024 By Admin No Comments on Netherlands: AVROTROS will decide Eurovision 2025 participation by November 1, following EBU deadline extension

Dutch Eurovision commentator Cornald Maas recently told Dutch media that he wants the Netherlands at Eurovision 2025.

And we now know that broadcaster AVROTROS has until November 1 to make its final decision about participation.

AVROTROS confirmed that it had been granted an extension to decide by the EBU in a statement sent out on Thursday morning.

“With EBU Deputy Director General and Director of Media Jean Philip De Tender’s visit to AVROTROS, the dialogue with the EBU has started. To give this constructive dialogue a chance to succeed, AVROTROS has requested to postpone the decision to participate. The EBU has granted an extension until November 1, for which we are grateful.”

As you’ll recall, the Dutch are divided over whether the country should participate in Basel following the disqualification of their act Joost Klein on the day of the grand final. In July the broadcaster said that its ongoing issues with the European Broadcasting Union meant there was only a small chance of it participating.

Earlier this summer, Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen resigned as AVROTROS’ Head of Delegation after just one year. And unlike in recent years, the broadcaster has not yet announced a submission period or selection process for the contest.

Instead, AVROTROS has remained firm with their demand for changes among the EBU’s top management.
