New music this week: Songs from Zlata Ognevich, Luca Hänni, Paula Seling and more

Posted on 18 August 2024 By Admin No Comments on New music this week: Songs from Zlata Ognevich, Luca Hänni, Paula Seling and more

Summer is the quiet period for Eurovision fans as we wait for the new season to commence. Thankfully, the music will always continue and a number of Eurovision artists are still producing new songs for us to enjoy.

Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.

Here is our latest weekly roundup with a selection of the songs released recently by Eurovision stars.

New music from Eurovision artists: 2024 | Week 33

Zlata Ognevich & Максим Бородін – “Без тебе”

This week starts with a powerful ballad from Ukraine that will bring tears to your eyes. We see the return of Zlata, who made her country proud back in 2013. Her newest song, “Without You,” is a collaboration with Maksym Borodin. With perfect vocal harmony, the ballad showcases two powerful voices and features deep lyrics about two people who can’t stay apart. The song is accompanied by a music video that portrays the strength of emotions through a transition of colors, from warm to cool, symbolising the blue feeling of loneliness. “And without you, I’m far away from heaven,” the track expresses how true love can change life, giving it new meaning and strength. Maksym shared that the song speaks about true love, which means support, inspiration, and strength in each other, and how true love is a real game-changer in life. Zlata added:

“This song tells about the moments when everything seems meaningless without a loved one and about the incredible strength we get when we are together.”

Saske feat. Eleni Foureira – “10′”

Eleni Foureira won the public’s hearts with her fiery performance for Cyprus in 2018. Now, the star has collaborated with Saske, a highly popular Greek rapper. The blend of Saske’s rap and Eleni’s warm, confident voice creates a perfect tune, marked by a unique rhythm and sharp flow. The song is featured on Saske’s new album, Get Loved or Die Tryin’.

BSW feat. ByeAlex – “Lidokain”

Now we turn our attention to Hungary, a country we truly miss in Eurovision. We’re keeping our hopes up for Hungary’s possible return. Until then, we can enjoy the new track from ByeAlex, who represented Hungary in 2013, in collaboration with the duo BSW. The song, titled “Lidocaine,” is just the anaesthetic you need to relax and enjoy the last days of summer. It delivers a cool vibe by mixing hip hop and trap music with a catchy summer sound, accompanied by a delightful music video perfect for the season.

Luca Hänni – “Love Me Better”

Luca represented Switzerland in 2019 and remains unforgettable to Eurovision fans. His new song has everything a successful pop track needs. The tune is powerful, with a slightly dark edge, and the music video highlights Luca’s impressive dancing skills while enhancing the mood with dark aesthetics. The lyrics focus on overcoming the past and learning to love yourself better, while discovering what you want and need in a relationship: “I’m gonna love me better / I’m ready to forget her / When I look into the mirror / I finally see clearer.” Luca opened up about the song’s meaning and expressed:

“My new song ‘Love me better’ is here! A song and a story that is very close to my heart. This struggle to find yourself and to know what you want and need in a relationship was a very important life experience for me. I hope you like the song and the video. I’m sending you lots of love and have fun listening to and watching my story.”

Nicki French – Who, What, Where?

Nicki French is a legend in the United Kingdom’s music scene and represented her country in Eurovision 2000. Now, she’s ready to impress us all with her new album, Who, What, Where?, which brings back the best of the ’80s and ’90s sound. The album features 12 energetic and vibrant tracks, offering a nostalgic trip back in time. You might already be familiar with two of the tracks, “Nothing is Impossible” and “High Hopes and Heartaches,” which were released earlier. The album opener, “High Hopes and Heartaches,” is a masterpiece that feels straight out of the ’80s, featuring the work of two legendary writers, Benny Andersson and Bjӧrn Ulvaeus from ABBA.

Paula Seling – “Tatăl Nostru”

Paula Seling brings a touching moment to our playlist this week. Eurovision fans know her as she represented Romania twice, both times as a duet with Ovi, first in 2010 and then again in 2014. Wearing a black dress and performing in Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Oradea, Paula delivers a rendition of the most famous Romanian prayer, “Our Father.” This religious text is a well-known prayer in Romania and is often the first prayer that children learn. The text begins with: “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Regarding the significance of this performance, Paula expressed:

“It was a moment I entrusted to the Heavens, in St. Nicholas Cathedral in Oradea, where I was invited to sing in front of a loving and radiant audience. I didn’t prepare in advance, nor did I plan a melody; I simply let myself be carried in prayer, and the music came naturally, like a double prayer. Performed on the spot, sent from somewhere above, I offer you the prayer ‘Our Father,’ from the feeling and dedication of my heart. May it be of use to us during the Dormition Fast.”

O.Torvald – “Водограй”

To close out this week symmetrically, we end with a song from Ukraine by the rock band O.Torvald, who represented their country in 2017. Their new track brings rock vibes to Dmytro Yaremchuk’s iconic song “Fountain.” This timeless classic gets a punk rock twist. The band expressed their excitement about being part of this project, both as a tribute to their love for Ukrainian culture and their admiration for Yaremchuk and his music, coinciding with the release of a new documentary. The documentary about the Ukrainian star is already in cinemas and is titled Yaremchuk: The Incomparable World of Beauty.

Which of these new songs is your favourite? Have we missed out on any? Do you have any artists you want to shout out to? Let us know in the comments.
