Switzerland announces Eurovision 2025 song submission dates

Posted on 4 July 2024 By Admin No Comments on Switzerland announces Eurovision 2025 song submission dates

Nemo may have initially shattered their Eurovision trophy back in Malmö, but they brought Switzerland its third ever Eurovision win, 36 years after the country’s last victory in 1988. Since then, Switzerland’s national broadcaster, SRF, has wasted no time in getting ready to host Eurovision 2025. From preparing to select a host city to putting together its core project team for the upcoming contest, there is certainly plenty to do over the next ten months.

Switzerland to begin internal selection in August

This year, SRF will open song submissions starting on 8 August, 9:00 CET. The submission window closes on 22 August, 22:00 CET.

As in past years, SRF will host an internal selection to determine their Eurovision 2025 entry. Once all song submissions are in, SRF will begin its usual “multi-stage process”, with three sets of juries taking part: “A Swiss audience jury, an international audience jury, plus a 25-member international jury of experts who have already served as members of juries at the Eurovision Song Contest in the past”. SRF then plans to reveal the winning entry in early 2025.

In its rules, SRF states that it is looking for “a modern, striking song that complies with international requirements”. In keeping with Switzerland’s multilingual identity, the song can be submitted in any language.

And while “nationality is not a deciding factor and does not prohibit anyone from entering a song”, SRF does note that “preference will be given to performers who are Swiss citizens or who are resident in Switzerland” in the case of a tie.

Potential performers also have to meet certain criteria, including the following:

  • At least 16 years old as of 1 May 2025
  • Be available from January to May 2025
  • Be able to perform the song live
  • Their song must not have been published in whole or in part before 1 September 2024

You can read the full rules on SRF’s official website.
