Baby Lasagna – “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” (Croatia Eurovision 2024)
Review: Baby Lasagna – “Rim Tim Tagi Dim”
Ruxandra: When having a song with a concept, it’s important to extend that concept beyond the song, and Croatia does this brilliantly. The song has no boring parts, blending rock and techno elements perfectly. The lyrics address a serious issue yet manage to remain fun, and Baby Lasagna is so involved in performing the song, using all of his incredible charisma. His stage presence elevates the performance A LOT. Despite minimal decorative elements and only two dancers, Croatia effectively immerses me in their storyline, leaving me with high expectations for the Eurovision performance. It’s pure madness, and I absolutely love it. It has it all!
Score: 10
Georgia: This song brings a lot of upbeat energy along with a deep and meaningful message. It is the embodiment of Eurovision in many ways, capturing the spirit of the competition. There’s a bit of pop, a bit of rock, basically a bit of everything! It’s definitely the type of song that appeals to viewers at home and will likely do great with televoting. However, to score highly with the juries, Baby Lasagna will need to work on improving the vocal delivery. The quirky vibe of the song reminds me of “Cha Cha Cha”, so it is important to eliminate any similarities, especially through having a unique stage show.
Score: 8
Simon: How this song was only a reserve for Dora is kind of a scandal, because it was clearly the best song of the selection. A personal story wrapped up in a catchy chorus that gets you hooked from the beginning. Although Baby Lasagna struggled a bit with the vocals in Dora, I know this entry will get the crowd going in the arena and probably also behind the TV screens. Is it relying too much on the crowd pleasing elements that Käärijä exploited last year? Maybe, but I’m sold for now and want to eat up the Croatian pasta dish — so I’ll be rim tim tagi dim’ing a lot in Malmö. Probably not a Eurovision winning entry, but it’s Top 5 material.
Score: 9.5
Antranig: A fraction wild, a fraction crazy, but a fantastic entry in its entirety. I love what the track is about, with the subject matter getting incredibly deep for a song that could be misjudged as a joke entry on the surface. The “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” hook is absolutely infectious and hard to get out of your head once you’ve heard it. There’s a lot to like here and it’s hard to see anything else coming out on top with the televote at least. The performance will dictate whether or not the juries can get behind it, but Croatia is clearly a contender.
Score: 8.5
