On Hug Day, fashion stylist Galina Denisiuk shares her thoughts on why hugs are essential for both adults and children. As she is currently expecting her third child, she admits that warmth, closeness, and physical affection feel more important than ever in this stage of her life.
According to Denisiuk, hugs are not just a gesture of affection but a basic emotional need, especially for children. In times of stress and uncertainty, physical contact helps create a sense of safety, calm, and emotional stability.

For children, hugs are often the clearest way to feel loved without words. When an adult hugs a child, it sends a strong message of acceptance, care, and protection.
“For a child, a hug is a signal: I’m here, you’re safe, you are loved. Through these simple moments, inner confidence and trust in the world are formed,” Denisiuk says.
She notes that children are highly sensitive to the emotional state of adults. Even when parents try to hide fatigue or worry, children still feel it. Hugs help release tension and restore a feeling of balance.
“There are moments when a child cannot explain what they are feeling. In those situations, a hug works better than any words,” she adds.

Denisiuk also emphasizes that adults need hugs just as much. Being strong all the time often means ignoring one’s own need for warmth and closeness.
“Adults need hugs too. It’s not weakness — it’s humanity. Sometimes one sincere hug gives more support than long conversations,” she says.
Now, while expecting her third child, Denisiuk says this need for closeness feels especially deep and meaningful. Hugs help her slow down, reconnect with herself, and feel supported during this emotional period.

On Hug Day, Galina Denisiuk encourages everyone to share warmth freely — with children, partners, loved ones, and even with themselves. Sometimes, it is the simplest gestures that help us stay grounded and strong.
