A total of 35 countries will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. That’s the lowest number of competing entries since the 2003 contest, which was the last without a semi-final.
So how did we get here? Well as you’ll recall, five countries that participated in 2025 withdrew following the recent Winter Assembly at the EBU. The Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, Slovenia and Iceland all took issue with Israel’s continued participation in the contest.
The number of participating countries has been offset by the return of three countries, which were announced in the months prior to the Winter Assembly: Bulgaria, Moldova and Romania.
15 songs will compete in the First Semi-Final on 12 May and 15 songs in the Second Semi-Final on 14 May.
