Ireland has made its choice! Six acts competed on RTÉ’s Late Late Show Eurosong Special, and it was EMMY who came out on top. Her song “Laika Party” earned an impressive 10 points and second place from the International Jury, while securing the maximum points from both the Public vote and the Irish Jury, clinching her spot in Basel.

EMMY is an emerging talent in the music industry, known for her powerful vocals, songwriting abilities, and dynamic performances. She’s now set to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with her track “Laika Party.” But who is the artist behind the name? Is she Irish? Does she use TikTok?   1. Born in Sande, Norway

Emmy Kristine Guttulsrud Kristiansen, mononymously known as Emmy was born on September 13, 2000, in the small village of Sande, located in Holmestrand Municipality, Norway. Growing up in a picturesque Norwegian setting, Emmy developed an early love for music, which became a significant part of her life.

  1. Choir Beginnings

As a child, Emmy’s musical journey began in a choir, where she honed her vocal skills. This early exposure to music laid the foundation for her future as a singer and songwriter.

  1. A Family Tradition in Music

Emmy’s passion for music runs in the family. Her older brother, Erlend Kristiansen, also pursued a career in music and even participated in the 2011 edition of the Melodi Grand Prix Junior, the same youth competition that Emmy entered years later.

  1. A Melodi Grand Prix Junior Debut at 14

In 2015, at the age of 14, Emmy participated in the Norwegian youth music competition Melodi Grand Prix Junior with the song “Aiaiaiai.” Her early appearance on the show showed her potential and introduced her to a wider audience.

  1. Melodi Grand Prix 2021

Emmy returned to Melodi Grand Prix in 2021, the national competition to select Norway’s Eurovision entry. Her song “Witch Woods” earned her a spot in the final. Although she did not make it to the gold final, the experience helped her build her reputation in Norway’s music scene.

  1. Part of the Eurovision 2023 Jury

In 2023, Emmy was invited to be part of Norway’s jury for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. Her experience as a performer and songwriter provided valuable insights as she helped select the artists and songs for the competition.

Beyond her work in Norway, Emmy gained significant attention through her social media presence, particularly on TikTok. With engaging content and her music, she amassed over a million followers, gaining a global audience and furthering her popularity.

  1. If At First You Don’t Succeed….

Her Eurovision entry, “Laika Party” was initially written in collaboration with a team of Irish and Norwegian songwriters, the song was first submitted to Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2025 but was rejected by NRK. Undeterred, Emmy entered the Irish national final, where she won both the national jury vote and the televote, securing her place at Eurovision.

  1. Songwriting for Other Artists

In addition to her solo career, Emmy is also a talented songwriter. She was involved in writing the song “Woman Show” by Mathilde SPZ, Chris Archer, and Slam Dunk for the Melodi Grand Prix 2024. Additionally, she contributed to the songwriting process for “Ramtai” by Citi Zēni, which placed third in Latvia’s Supernova 2025, the national selection for Eurovision.
