Poland has a musical gem in the form of Justyna Steczkowska. A versatile and talented artist who has captured the hearts of many with her distinctive voice and dynamic career. From her breakthrough in the ’90s to her continued influence on the Polish music scene, Justyna’s journey is one of both artistic growth and lasting impact.

In February, Justyna Steczkowska achieved another milestone in her glittering career by winning the Polish national final, Wielki Finał Polskich Kwalifikacji, with her song “Gaja”. She secured first place with 31,574 votes, which accounted for 39.32% of the televote, outpacing her competition. This victory means Justyna will represent Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2025, bringing her captivating performance and powerful vocals to the grand stage in Basel.

But who is Justyna? How many albums has she made? And didn’t she do Eurovision before?

  1. Justyna Steczkowska

Justyna Maria Steczkowska is one of Poland’s most recognised and respected vocalists. She was born on August 2, 1972, in Rzeszów, Poland – a city in southeastern Poland where her music career first began.

  1. Early Life

From an early age, Justyna developed a love for music. She participated in school performances and choirs, marking the beginning of what would become a long and successful musical career. Justyna graduated from Music School in Rzeszów, where she focused on classical singing. Her education provided her with the foundation to explore multiple musical genres, from opera to pop. She played violin in a family band and was a singer in rock and jazz bands before embarking on a solo career.

She is the fourth of nine children of Danuta and Stanisław Steczkowski, a music teacher and conductor. Justyna is a wife and a mother. She has been married for 25 years to architect and designer Maciej Myszkowski. Together, they have two children. 

  1. Eurovision Participation

Justyna Steczkowska gained national recognition after participating in Szansa na sukces (Chance for Success) in 1995. Her success in the competition helped catapult her career and made her a household name in Poland. As a result, Justyna represented Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1995 with the song “Sama” (Alone). Although she finished in 18th place, her performance captured the attention of the audience and earned her a place in the hearts of Eurovision fans.

Justyna has released 18 studio albums, including 15 solo albums. In 1997, she released her debut album “Dziewczyna szamana” (The Shaman’s Girl). This album combined folk, pop, and rock elements, and it quickly became a hit, establishing her as a rising star in the Polish music scene. Justyna’s music is known for its versatility; she blends pop, classical, folk, and rock influences, creating a unique sound that showcases her vocal range and creativity. Other notable albums include “Kobieta” (Woman) and “Między nami” (Between Us), both of which received critical acclaim.

  1. Awards and acclaim

Throughout her career, Justyna has won several prestigious awards. Two Wiktor awards, a Superjedynka and a Bursztynowy Słowik. She has also been honoured with the Bronze Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture, and has been ranked among Forbes Poland‘s most valuable stars of Polish show-business numerous times.

  1. Fryderyk Awards

Arguably her most important accolades include winning six Fryderyk awards – Poland’s equivalent of the Grammy Award, including Best Female Artist. These accolades celebrate her contribution to the Polish music scene. 

  1. Justyna is a songwriter

Justyna is not just a talented singer but also an accomplished songwriter. She writes many of her own songs, and her lyrics are often personal, introspective, and reflective of her experiences.

  1. TV Star

Justyna has made several TV appearances. She has appeared as a coach on The Voice of Poland in seasons 2, 4–5, and 12–14, with two of her contestants winning the competition,  She was also a runner-up in season six of the Polish version of Dancing with the Stars in 2007 and co-hosted the Polish version of Dancing on Ice in 2008.

Aside from her music, dancing and presenting endeavours, Justyna is also an actress. She has starred in the films Billboard and Na koniec świata (“To the End of the World”).

One more bonus fact. Justyna is deeply involved in charity work, particularly supporting causes related to children and education. She often performs at charity events, using her platform to raise awareness for important causes.
