What does “Poison Cake” even mean? Marko Bosnjak explains his Dora 2025 song in Croatia

Posted on 11 January 2025 By Admin No Comments on What does “Poison Cake” even mean? Marko Bosnjak explains his Dora 2025 song in Croatia

He finished second at Dora 2022 behind Mia Dimšić. And three years later, Bosnian-Croatian pop star Marko Bošnjak is back.

“I really like Eurovision,” he told our Cinan in Zagreb a few weeks before the Dora 2025 songs were revealed. “I really like Dora. I didn’t think I was going to come back for five years at least, but then I heard this awesome song. And I was like, ‘This is my ticket. This is my time.’ I felt it. I really felt the energy and the calling.”

The calling came from “Poison Cake” — his difficult-to-define number which mixes pop, garage, opera and some very dark industrial beats.

Marko Bošnjak explains his Dora 2025 song “Poison Cake”

Well what is “Poison Cake” if not a toxic baked good?

“Poison Cake is very much about standing up for yourself,” Marko says.

With that in mind — and after reading the lyrics — you can interpret the song as dishing out sweet revenge to those who tried to spite you.

It brings together several different styles.

“I think I’m doing like every genre ever,” Marko says. “There are like six major changes in the song and I’m sure that I can do it. I can’t wait to slay it live.”

“It’s one thing to do it in the studio and have multiple takes until it’s perfect…but where I really feel that you can show your best is in your live performance. I’m working on my live performance and hoping the different vibes of the song are transmitted to the audience.”

You can watch the full interview above. What do you think of Marko? Are you loving his energy? Let us know down below.
