Posted on 29 December 2024 By Admin No Comments on New music this week: Songs from Alyosha, NAVIBAND, Elnur Hussein and more

The Eurovision 2025 season is beginning to heat up. Over the course of the next few months, we will all fall in and out of love with scores of new national final and Eurovision entries. But that doesn’t mean we forget about the artists from past contests.

Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.

Here is our latest weekly roundup with a selection of the songs released recently by Eurovision stars.

New music from Eurovision artists: 2024 | Week 52

Olena Topolia (Alyosha) – “О, це Різдво”

Alyosha, whose real name is Olena Topolia, represented Ukraine in 2010. During the Christmas season, she released a beautiful ballad titled “Oh, It’s Christmas,“ which is sure to warm your soul with her incredibly sweet voice. The song is a Christmas-themed love ballad dedicated to her dearest one, where she expresses all her love and gratitude for them. Reflecting on the deep connection she shares with her special someone and the significance of love in one’s life, the Ukrainian artist shared:

“A woman becomes a Queen when there is a real King next to her. If a man wants his woman to be an angel, he creates Eden for her. I dedicate this song to my only one. You are my everything…as it was…as it is! I love you and I know for sure that it is mutual. You are the best gift from the Creator, I am grateful, my beloved Topolka!”

NAVIBAND – “Надзея”

NAVIBAND, who competed in Eurovision 2017, have released a heart-warming acoustic tune titled “Hope” in celebration of the winter holidays. The song beautifully captures the essence of Christmas night and the hope it brings, emphasising its profound significance. As the lyrics state: “This is the night for you and me/ This night gives freedom/ And for those who did not believe/ This night gives hope.” The music video features an adorable little drummer boy, adding a charming touch to the heartfelt song. Alongside the release, the band shared:

“Take care of yourself and your loved ones and never lose HOPE. Happy holidays!”

Elnur Hussein – “Yeni İl”

Elnur, who made Azerbaijan proud in 2008 and 2015, has returned with a snowy and cheerful Christmas track that is sure to put a smile on your face. The song, titled “New Year,“ is the perfect way to usher in 2025 with an uplifting and positive vibe. Let this delightful tune fill you with joy and set the tone for a bright start to the year ahead!

Sofi Marinova feat. Gurmanov – “Kato Kmet”

If you’ve had your fill of Christmas songs and are looking for something different, we have the perfect track for you from Sofi Marinova, who represented Bulgaria in 2012. Her latest release is a cheerful and humorous tune that bursts with the energy of the turbo-folk genre. Titled “Like a Mayor,” the song is a collaboration with Gurmanov and comes with an entertaining music video.

The song plays out like a playful dialogue between a wealthy man, described in the lyrics as being “like the mayor of Dubai,” and a spirited girl who’s in love with him. She refuses to be submissive just because of his riches and instead teases and challenges him in a flirty and mischievous attempt to show her love and interest.

Celia Becks feat. Barei and more – “El Espejo”

Spanish artist Celia Becks has brought together numerous talents from the Spanish music industry for her latest release. Among these collaborators is Barei, who represented Spain in Eurovision 2016. The song, titled “The Mirror,” holds a deeply meaningful purpose, as it was created for charity.

All proceeds from the song’s streams and shares will be donated to support the victims of the devastating floods that struck the eastern regions of Spain in October this year. This heartfelt project combines music and solidarity, making it a powerful tribute to those in need.

O.Torvald – “Демони”

O.Torvald, the dynamic Ukrainian rock group that represented their country in Eurovision 2017, have a treat for rock music fans this week. Their song “Demons,” a fan-favourite from live performances, is here to add a burst of energy to your playlist.

The track delves into the inner struggles we all face, serving as a reminder to confront life’s challenges head-on. With its electrifying rock vibe, “Demons” is designed to reignite your spirit and get you back on your feet.

Johnny Logan – “Somebody Like You”

Irish legend Johnny Logan, who famously won Eurovision twice as a singer — in 1980 and 1987 — has released an incredible new song. The track celebrates that one special person in life who makes everything better, as the chorus beautifully expresses: “The world is better with somebody like you.”

The song also speaks about finding hope and guidance through the light they provide when we’re lost in darkness. Johnny Logan will perform this heartfelt piece at the iconic Brandenburg Gate during the Celebrate at the Gate New Year’s Eve event.

Mihai Trăistariu & Cristian Harhătă – “Îi cântecul fraților”

Mihai, who represented Romania in Eurovision 2006, has released a new song titled “It’s the Brothers’ Song” in collaboration with Romanian traditional music singer Cristian Harhătă. This is their second duet together, and the track beautifully showcases Romanian traditional music in its purest form.

The heartfelt lyrics highlight the importance of having a brother — or a friend as close as a sibling — to rely on in times of need. As the song says: “It’s the song of brothers/ And I’ll sing it until I die/ When you have a trouble and a longing/ You ask your brother for help.”

Lindita – “Secrets”

Lindita, who represented Albania in Eurovision 2017, has unveiled her latest release — a powerful English-language song that perfectly showcases her incredible voice. Accompanied by a lyric video, the track invites fans to sing along while delving into its deep and thought-provoking themes.

The song explores the idea of knowing someone’s secrets and the truth — truth so impactful that it could ruin a life. Yet, instead of engaging in revenge or drama, Lindita chooses to rise above it all, refusing to lower herself by causing harm. She leaves the consequences to karma, delivering a message of strength and integrity.

Laura Põldvere X AG – Pimepäev

Laura, who represented Estonia twice — first in 2005 as part of the girl group Suntribe and again in 2017 in a duet with Koit Toome — returns with a powerful new collaboration with AG. The song, titled “Black Day,” is part of the Eesti Laul 2025 wildcard round, where the public are voting to choose one final song to join the official competition of Estonia’s Eurovision national selection.

This emotionally charged track addresses the harrowing issue of child abuse. With striking lyrics like, “Tears are shed, and there is chaos at home/ She can’t just stay at home/ She wants to leave/ Heart broken in her chest/ She hid in the closet from her father,” the song sheds light on the devastating effects of abuse. It underscores how such trauma can lead to homelessness or, tragically, even suicide.

Which of these new songs is your favourite? Have we missed out on any? Do you have any artists you want to shout out to? Let us know in the comments.
