The Eurovision 2025 season is beginning to heat up. Over the course of the next few months, we will all fall in and out of love with scores of new national final and Eurovision entries. But that doesn’t mean we forget about the artists from past contests.
Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.
Here is our latest weekly roundup with a selection of the songs released recently by Eurovision stars.
New music from Eurovision artists: 2024 | Week 49
Windows95Man – “Paperclip”
It’s time to head back to the 1990s, when everyone’s favourite Microsoft Office assistant started helping us put our PowerPoint presentations together. Windows95Man is honouring Clippy through the new song “Paperclip,” a rave tune that goes full force and doesn’t let up until the end. Finland’s Eurovision 2024 act sings: “The year is 95, I’m up in my room / I’m listening to ‘Can’t Stop Loving You’ / I can’t help it, the feeling inside I’m blue / But Clippy will guide me through.” We unfortunately have to point out a slight inaccuracy in the lyrics, as Clippy wasn’t actually introduced until two years later in Microsoft Office 97.
Loreen – “Gravity”
“In the stars, I see you everywhere / I could never get away, get away / In a hold, just take me anywhere / And I believe in what you say / Oh, your gravity, your gravity / Your gravity, I will follow you.”
Loreen keeps us dancing with her latest single, “Gravity.” It’s an iridescent dance-pop track with several layers of electronic production underneath the Swedish superstar’s rich vocals. The lyrics see the two-time Eurovision winner feeling a pull towards a special individual and a desire to follow where that takes her, as she notes:
“‘Gravity’ is about the invisible forces that shape us — the pull of love, the weight of desire, and the quiet voice within that guides us through it all. It’s a song about trust, both in others and in ourselves, and finding beauty even in moments of uncertainty. Through this track, I wanted to capture the duality of being held by something larger than us, yet still choosing to follow where it leads.”
LUNA – “A może”
“What’s yours / Isn’t mine anymore for a long time / I’ll run until tomorrow, I won’t take anything / Or maybe / You won’t catch up with me / Although I still have a few sentiments / In my broken heart.”
The latest single from LUNA’s upcoming album — set for release in February 2025 — is “A może” (“Or maybe”). Poland’s Eurovision 2024 star gifts us a spirited pop song underlined by consistent guitar strumming, which is added to in the chorus by a keyboard. A note underneath the lyric video goes into detail on the message behind the song:
“Who among us has not once stood in a place where the heart whispers ‘stay’ and brain says ‘go on’? ‘A może?’ is a story about those moments when love becomes unclear, uncertain, but still beautiful. Luna takes us on a journey through these feelings – from the warmth of a hand, to the taste of sweet uncertainty, to fleeting moments. It’s a song about how sometimes love can be fragile and fickle, and yet we hold it close, even when it falls apart. ‘A może?’ is for those who know that a broken heart is sometimes a full heart. Because we don’t have to know everything for sure – sometimes just feeling is enough.”
Marina Satti – “ANATOLI”
Marina Satti rounds off an amazing 2024 with “ANATOLI” (“Sunrise”). This final track of the year is a more emotional one. It starts off with the Greek singer accompanied by a single guitar, but builds over the three minutes and develops into a soft rock style. In the chorus, Satti sings: “In a sunrise full of light, I’m waiting for you / We’ll find another life in a foreign harbour / You are a flower of the cliff and of the wind / I’ve never reached this high before.”
alyona alyona & VLADA K – “Загадаю”
As a former kindergarten teacher, alyona alyona is no stranger to working with young people. So it’s fitting that VLADA K invited the Ukrainian rapper to collaborate on the new single “Загадаю” (“I Conjure”). It’s a heartfelt song that calls for peace and happiness in every home this holiday time — something many Ukrainians can still only dream of amidst the ongoing war. The Eurovision 2024 star expands on this in her verse: “I will conjure a bright fate / I will conjure hundreds of wishes / So that there is a home for those who are without a home […] I will conjure, until it is not too late / In the heart and home for everyone…peace.”
Il Volo – “Tra le onde”
Il Volo are living “Tra le onde” (“Among the waves”). Italy’s Eurovision 2015 trio deliver another powerful ballad with symphonic production courtesy of the accompanying orchestra. The story behind the song is a reflection on the ups and downs we experience throughout life, just like the rippling waves of the sea. But keeping us afloat amongst it all is the bond with our loved one, acting to guide and support us: “The heart among the waves, waves, waves / Feeling the wind on my face / Without stopping to laugh / Together among the waves, waves, waves / Life is like a stream / It passes under us / That we remain in full flow among the waves.”
Mustii – “THE MAZE”
Following his appearance at Eurovision 2024, Mustii now concludes this standout year of his life with a new album. THE MAZE contains nine songs mixed with an intro and dance interlude, concluding with his Eurovision entry “Before The Party’s Over.” There are various levels to the LP, with the Belgian star bringing gritty glam rock tracks in between subtler ballads. Commenting on his sonic vision of the album, Mustii notes:
“I imagine this album as a metaphor for a long night of partying, from the pre-party to the after-party, with its ups and downs, the euphoria and then the fall.”
Ligados às Máquinas feat. Salvador Sobral and more – Amor Dimensional
Ligados às Máquinas (Connected to Machines) is a Portuguese orchestra composed of wheelchair users and members of the Cerebral Palsy Association of Coimbra. After 10 years of work, the group have released the debut album Amor Dimensional. Several national singers and musicians helped with the project, including Eurovision 2017 champion Salvador Sobral. You can hear his additional vocals on opening track “Amanhever,” as well as “Tarda, sim… tarda, não!”
ALEKSEEV & ULYANA – “Вальс”
ALEKSEEV is showing that it’s still possible to have a healthy friendship with your ex-partners. The Ukrainian star wrote “Вальс” (“Waltz”) with ULYANA when they were dating several years ago. Although the pair are no longer together, they have still decided to complete their collaboration and release the song. An emotional pop ballad with a dark, minor melodic atmosphere, the pair sing about the dance of life: “Bodies dance a waltz / It is without a chord in the finale / And at this time I am kissing you like for the last time / You are my warmth, I am your chosen one / Life is a fast-paced dance.”
MUSIQQ – “Ieslēdz gaismu”
Latvian duo MUSIQQ have shared a poignant new song titled “Ieslēdz gaismu” (“Turn on the light”). A moving pop ballad, the Eurovision 2011 act aren’t actually the main focus of the song. Instead, the story is told from a child’s point of view. Writing on social media, MUSIQQ noted how their own children inspired the message of the song:
“There was no need to look for inspiration for the song — both Marats and Emils are fathers to sons — and in it we sing what every parent will understand. This is a story about the importance of being present with your child, the security and peace we can provide. We wanted to transmit the song to listeners right now – in time of waiting for Advent and the holidays. This is a reminder that in the rush of everyday life we need to find time to stop and appreciate the loved ones around us.”
Ben Dolic – “colours”
“You’re all that I need and you set me free / You make me believe, when I’m in too deep / Was down on my knees, with ground at my feet / But now I’m free falling / You give your colours to me.”
After struggling in a world of grey, Ben Dolic is now seeing the “colours” of life once again. Germany’s Eurovision 2020 entrant keeps things paired back for the pop ballad, chiefly singing on top of an acoustic guitar. It would be easy to assume the lyrics are about a romantic partnership. However, Dolic revealed on Instagram that the song was actually written about the community and support his fans have provided him over the years:
“last year i was fresh out of a relationship and spending way too much time on my phone, comparing myself to others and growing more and more anxious as i stayed in my room alone staring at screens. i knew i needed to get out so asked a family friend for a favour and they dropped me to their remote lake house where i spent a few days with my devices switched off and focused on making music. i thought about the one thing that had got me through everything that was impacting me at the time, keeping me going and providing a source of comfort and positivity knowing i was never alone, which is this community we have built together. this song isn’t for the radio or really a fit for playlists that will help me grow, but i want you to have it because i wrote it for you, i wrote it about you. thank you for giving your colours to me.”
Nikolas Raptakis – “Trelos”
Freaky Fortune’s Nikolas Raptakis is going “Trelos” (“Crazy”). Greece’s Eurovision 2014 representative combines folk elements with a darker cult mood for his latest track, resulting in a captivating listening journey. The song acts as a first tase of the EP that Raptakis is in the middle of preparing.
Rosa López – “Fe”
Rosa López’s latest single is “Fe,” which translates to English as “Faith.” It builds into a rock ballad, with Spain’s Eurovision 2002 performer delivering a powerful climax. Writing on social media about her inspiration for the song, López stated:
“FAITH is all I have, FAITH is the life I believe in, the one that guides me to where I want to go, FAITH in what I cannot see, in what I know exists and I cannot see, FAITH in you who always lead my career to the top. […] My FAITH, are the thousands of people who one day made a dream come true, my FAITH is my HAPPINESS. Thank you to all of you who one day trusted in me and gave me what I have today, my faith.”
Mandinga – “La Parte De Atras” & “Enchulada”
If you’re missing the summer vibes (or summer is just getting going for you in the southern hemisphere), then Eurovision 2012 alumni Mandinga have the songs for you. The Romanian band have two new offerings — “La Parte De Atras” (“The Part From Behind”) and “Enchulada” (“Pimped Up”). The former is infused with trumpets, whilst the latter brings a reggaeton feel. Both provide great rhythm to get the listener on the dance floor.
Magnus Bäcklund & Melinda – “If Not You”
Magnus Bäcklund took to the Eurovision stage in 2003 as part of the duo Fame with Jessica Andersson. The Swedish singer has now released a song alongside another duet partner, Melinda. “If Not You” is a retro pop-rock track with underlying synths that place it in an ’80s or early ’90s theme. Lyrically, the pair question how anyone else in the world could be their soulmate: “Who will say I’m right even though I’m wrong / Who will be the one I think of when you’re gone / Who can treat me right, never leave me blue / Tell me who, if not you.”
Voltaj – “#20” and “Se poate”
Amidst ongoing political tensions in Romania, Voltaj have released two new songs recently in support of the country’s independence and place within Europe. The first is “#20,” which recalls the darkness of the communist period faced by Romania and how the country should never go back there again.
Additionally, the Eurovision 2015 band have shared “Se poate” (“It is possible”). This song has a more uplifting atmosphere and discusses the bright future that is attainable for a free Romania: “We believe it is possible / And we do it day by day / A fairy tale country where we will be happy / Romania is changing / With every step / No matter how hard it is I don’t stop and I don’t give up.”
Jendrik – The-Never-Ending-Fall
Winter may now be here, but Jendrik is living The-Never-Ending-Fall. Germany’s Eurovision 2021 entrant has dropped an EP that encapsulates the melancholic feel of this time of year. The three tracks are primarily in English, though he switches to German for the second verse of “Summer on Our Minds.”
Koza Mostra – MALAKA
Koza Mostra are rounding off the year with the album MALAKA. The term is commonly used as an insult, translating to English as “jerk” or “idiot” — literally referring to someone who is foolish or annoying but often used in a more casual, joking context among friends. Greece’s Eurovision 2013 group have included eight songs on the LP, featuring their singles from the last few years along with a selection of brand new offerings that complement their unique combination of traditional folk instruments with rock attitude.
