Estonia in Junior Eurovision 2024: ANNABELLE with “Tänavad”

ANNABELLE was born and raised in Estonia’s Tartu County. Developing a love for music at the age of six, the young star has crafted her singing ability alongside learning to play the piano — already winning several competitions for both.

Music has grown into ANNABELLE’s greatest passion and she particularly enjoys using it to spread happiness, stating: “I especially love to sing, because it lifts the mood and brings a lot of joy. Music gives me a lot of new experiences, and music in general creates happy feelings inside me.”

She balances this side of her life with an additional love for sports, and she excels at the 60 metre sprint.

ANNABELLE earned the right to represent Estonia at Junior Eurovision after winning the 2024 edition of Tähtede Lava (Star Stage). The show has three competitions for different age groups, with ANNABELLE taking the crown in the category for those who are 11 to 13 years old.

What do the “Tänavad” lyrics mean?

ANNABELLE’s Junior Eurovision entry is about the street life of young people. The Estonian singer discusses how these “Tänavad” (“Streets”) are full of promise from the amazing things that the new generations will create:

There are young poets and musicians here
Together with their bold ideas
No one can stop them

On these streets, everyone can be their true self. There is no need to hide away or shield your character because others may disapprove of who you are:

You don’t have to change anymore
You don’t have to lose yourself
You don’t have to pretend here anymore

ANNABELLE affirms that young people are ready to leave their mark. Their voices will never be suppressed and they will give their all to the streets on which they grew up:

There will be no silencing
Of our voice on these streets
Here we were young and here together
We left our hearts

“Tänavad” lyrics — ANNABELLE (Estonia JESC 2024)

Estonian text

Me jätsime südamed
Ei vaiki hääl
Nendel hallidel tänavatel
Siin iga maja maalib meile loo
Neile päevinäind seintele

Siin on noori poeete ja muusikuid koos
Nende julged ideed
Ei suuda neid keegi peatada
Ei suuda neid keegi peatada

Sa ei pea enam muutuma
Sa ei pea ennast kaotama
Sa ei pea enam teesklema siin

Ei vaiki veel
Meie hääl nendel tänavatel
Siin olime väiksed siia koos
Me jätsime südamed
Ei vaiki hääl
Nendel hallidel tänavatel
Siin iga maja maalib meile loo
Neile päevinäind seintele

Vabana nii kaugele sa saad
Vabana sa …

Ei vaiki veel
Meie hääl nendel tänavatel
Siin olime väiksed siia koos
Me jätsime südamed
Ei vaiki hääl
Nendel hallidel tänavatel
Siin iga maja maalib meile loo
Neile päevinäind seintele

English translation

Whiter than white is everything in the beginning
On these streets
Those illusions that you are young and don’t know
We don’t believe; don’t take for truth

You don’t have to change anymore
You don’t have to lose yourself
You don’t have to pretend here anymore

There will be no silencing
Of our voice on these streets
Here we were young and here together
We left our hearts
The voices won’t be silent
On these grey streets
Every house is painting a story for us here
On those shabby walls

There are young poets and musicians here
Together with their bold ideas
No one can stop them
No one can stop them

You don’t have to change anymore
You don’t have to lose yourself
You don’t have to pretend here anymore

There will be no silencing
Of our voice on these streets
Here we were young and here together
We left our hearts
The voices won’t be silent
On these grey streets
Every house is painting a story for us here
On those shabby walls

Freely, as far as you want
Freely you can fly now…

There will be no silencing
Of our voice on these streets
Here we were young and here together
We left our hearts
The voices won’t be silent
On these grey streets
Every house is painting a story for us here
On those shabby walls
