Summer is the quiet period for Eurovision fans as we wait for the new season to commence. Thankfully, the music will always continue and a number of Eurovision artists are still producing new songs for us to enjoy.
Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.
Here is our latest weekly roundup with a selection of the songs released recently by Eurovision stars.
New music from Eurovision artists: 2024 | Week 29
Ben Cristovao & Toby Romeo – “FIRE”
We start this week with a song that’s burning hot! Ben Cristovao, under the stage name Benny Cristo, was selected to represent the Czech Republic in 2020 when the contest was cancelled due to the pandemic, but he came back one year later, in 2021. His newest song is a collaboration with Toby Romeo. The song has a cool radio sound and some great electronic influences, as Toby is a well-known Austrian DJ. “We got that FIRE/ No we don’t need no water/ Go even hotter sweat my body let me burn/ Take me higher,” the track is a love song hotter than a summer night. Keep your eyes open because a music video is on the way.
Ronela Hajati – “TA TA TA”
Ronela brings a summer banger straight from Albania, the country she represented in Eurovision 2022. If you want energy, savageness, confidence, and a powerful voice, Ronela offers all of these in her newest track. The song is accompanied by a music video that is not only summery but also showcases some stunning looks of Ronela, who appears like a goddess. Naturally, the traditional influences are not missing. “I lost my world for a second without seeing you/ Because I’m sick of boredom, because I want to eat you up/ I missed seeing you tonight/ Come on, baby.” Love and longing meet in Ronela’s lyrics as she awaits the return of her loved one. Ronela hopes to bring good vibes with her newest song, as she stated:
“I hope ‘TA TA TA’ makes you dance and forget about everything negative, except the people you love dearly.”
Daði Freyr – “Fuck City” & “Together”
Alessandra – “Marameo”
The Nordic queen of the kings is back with a surprising Mediterranean song. Alessandra, who represented Norway in 2023, delivers a powerful track in Italian. It is simply impossible to stay still while listening to this song; the vibes will take over you. Encouraged by her fans to release this one, she listened, and we are so glad she did. The lyrics speak about a lover who cheated and now wants to come back, but she has other plans and is not sorry about it: “A love dressed in a thousand lies/ She was the forbidden fruit that you ate/ Now you come crawling back longing for forgiveness (…)/ Oh look who’s calling/ Oh look I don’t want drama.” Additionally, the song is an invitation for all the girls who have been hurt before to go to Italy and have some fun: “To all the queens who have drama/ Let’s go drink Barolo in Italy.” Get charged with feminine power with this new song.
Kasia Kowalska – “W Zakamarkach Serc”
Kasia represented Poland in 1996. This week she released a ballad that is very special to her. The song is called “In the Corners of the Heart,” and it’s her first self-composition since 2018. The song is nostalgic, and while Kasia’s music usually brings a certain kind of longing and sadness, this one brings even more sensitivity to her work. This year marks 30 years since Kasia’s debut album, Gemini. The song comes with a black-and-white music video that blends the past and the present. The video was filmed in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship and includes scenes shot on the stage of the Forest Opera in Sopot, where she received the Grand Prix and the Audience Award during the International Song Festival in Sopot in 1995.
The Starlings – “Madness”
Tom Dice represented Belgium in Eurovision 2010. He now forms the music duo The Starlings with his wife, Kato Callebaut. Their new song is an uplifting acoustic track composed by Kato. The song is about being bolder, taking risks, and filling life with madness and unforgettable memories: “I’m gonna be bolder/ Get the weight off my shoulders/ Wish I was a little more careless/ (…) Might get a little bit reckless/ Fall into your madness.” The song will be part of their upcoming album, set to be released on 20 November
Timebelle, technify & Soundland – “Physical”
Timebelle, the trio from Switzerland who competed in Eurovision 2017, has teamed up with Technify and Soundland to create the ultimate summer club song. It’s pure EDM all over! The voice of Runa, the group’s Romanian vocalist, completes the song perfectly. The song speaks about being more emotional than rational when making certain decisions: “Let’s not be rational/ Let’s be emotional/ Let’s feel it with our flesh/ Let’s make it physical/ It’s me you will possess/ I won’t try to suppress/ This body-mind excess/ Go up, up, up this dress.”
Ben Dolic – “still the same”
Ben Dolic was supposed to represent Germany in 2020 when the contest was cancelled. He has dropped his second single of the year. This acoustic track was written during one of Ben’s trips to London earlier this year, when he realised that giving up bad habits is harder than he imagined, which makes progress slower. The song speaks about how healing is a difficult journey that doesn’t always go smoothly and sometimes we feel stuck in the same place: “I’m still the same/ How could I move on/ Knowing that I’ll never change/ It’s such a shame/ The person that I was/ About to make the same mistakes.” About the meaning of his song, Ben said:
“It’s so crazy to me that this song even exists, after making so many positive changes in my life and feeling like the only way was up, I didn’t expect to be comparing myself so much to the point where I would write about my mistakes and the progress I didn’t make. Every day is a challenge to become a better version of myself or stay where I feel comfortable, and which direction I choose really can depend on the day. Still the same was created after having one too many nights out waking up with less money in the bank than I planned, one too many days of hitting snooze on the alarm, and far too many days of comparing where other people were at to my life. The most important promise you can keep is a promise to yourself and now this song is being released I am aiming to make this a priority.”
Fosteii feat. Diljá – “I’ll Wait”
It’s time to get nostalgic with that late ’90s and early ’00s vibe. Diljá, who represented Iceland in last year’s Eurovision, has teamed up with Fosteii for a track that blends old-school pop with R&B, leaving us all in awe. “I need your body on mine/ Better believe, yeah I’m taking my time with you (…) Never seen a better view.” The lyrics speak about a love story where good things come with time and are worth the wait.
Jimmy Dub feat. Mandinga – “Ti Ti”]
Mandinga, the Romanian band that represented Romania in Eurovision 2012, is currently performing with Barbara Isasi as the main vocalist, who replaced Elena Ionescu, the vocalist from their Eurovision entry. Their new song is a collaboration with Romanian artist Jimmy Dub. Get ready for a fusion of reggaeton and jazz salsa. The music perfectly defines a pool party and is incredibly inviting. Mandinga brings you the perfect song for these hot days!
Mike Tramp – “Lonely Nights”
It’s about time we have some rock music in this week’s round-up. Mike brings us an epic track. He represented Denmark as part of the band Mabel in 1978. Despite the success of Mabel, it was with White Lion that Mike found his greatest fame. Next month, Mike will release an album titled Songs of White Lion — Vol. II. The album will feature re-recordings of the famous tracks he released with White Lion, including songs he wrote between 1983 and 1990. “Lonely Nights” is no exception. The song tells the story of a little boy and a little girl who lost each other: “The little girl standing in the rain/ On the corner of 42nd Street/ And she’s all alone on the bad side of town/ ‘Cause there was a little boy/ That she loved with all her heart/ But he’s far away with another girl/ Now she’s searching for a friend/ Just to hold her when she cries.” Get your dose of rock music!
Riskykidd & Arva – “Gianni Versace”
And some trap and savageness comes from Riskykidd. He represented Greece in 2014 with Freaky Fortune. His new song is a blend of trap and hip-hop, created in collaboration with Arva. Titled after the famous designer Gianni Versace, the track exudes luxury and features a music video filmed in Dubai.
Vanilla Ninja – “Sting of a Scorpion”
Aksel & s m s n – “Adoring You”
From Finland, Aksel was set to represent his country in 2020 before the pandemic led to the cancellation of the show. While you’re used to hearing Aksel perform ballads and pop songs, this collaboration with s m s n showcases how well his voice fits EDM and deep house as well. You’ll adore this song as much as we do.
Feminnem – “Srodne duše”
Feminnem are searching for their “Srodne duše” (“Soul mates”). The two-time Eurovision representatives (Bosnia & Herzegovina 2005, Croatia 2010) hope this sultry summer tune can lure in the person of their dreams. However, the lyrics don’t suggest things are going well — whilst they might find a potential partner one day, they quickly drift apart the next day: “I try not to lose my shine / But all sweet lies poison your soul / I always calculate, I always choose wisely / And, look, how far it got me again […] Soul mates tonight, and the wrong match tomorrow.”
Nicole -“Lass den Sommer nie vergeh’n”
And we end this week’s round-up with a winner. Nicole won the Eurovision Song Contest for Germany back in 1982. Her beautiful voice shines on this sunshine-packed track, bringing positive vibes and joy. The song, titled “Never Let The Summer Pass,” is the perfect reminder to live in the moment and savour the little joys of life. A music video for her newest song is coming soon, too.
