Stella Sezon - Sniff the cat: a hit about the saving power of cats

Stella Sezon — Sniff the cat: хіт про рятівну силу котиків

The singer with a magical voice and composer Stella Sezon continues to expand the boundaries of contemporary Ukrainian music and presents a new single Sniff the cat, which can be used not only to dance to, but also to think about the nature of mental problems and addictions.

The single Sniff the cat has a unique story of creation and is a part of the artist’s personal and creative history: “The song was written in one of the most difficult moments of my life. Back then, I lost my voice, and knots formed on my vocal cords, so I didn’t even know if I would be able to sing normally. Singing is as necessary for me as breathing. That’s why I was in a very difficult state, it seemed that even my soul was hurting,” says the author.

The track is called Sniff the cat, and we are sure that you will never find a song with a similar title. But the song got this name for a reason, it’s not a whim of the author or even a way to attract attention: “This song is about a person with an anxiety disorder, depression, and easy ways to support yourself in the form of addictions. I don’t use the word drugs, I use the image of a cat that you want to smell, which allows you to distract from problems, calm down and enjoy life for a moment,” explained Stella Sezon.

We all know cat lovers who not only pet their furry friends but also smell them for pleasure. This habit often turns into a kind of addiction. Cats become not only pets, but also a means of coping with loneliness, depression, anxiety, and other mental problems.

The future hit Sniff the cat was not supposed to be performed by the author and was written for sale. “This song was created by accident. That day we had a party with friends. During the party, I remembered that I had to submit the track for sale tomorrow. So we moved to our studio and quickly created and recorded the first version of the song together. We kept this atmosphere of celebration and escape in difficult times in the single version,” the singer explained.

After listening to the track, the authors realized that it was a real hit and they would never give it to other artists and began preparing the single for release.

Over a cheerful groove, Stella Sezon sings about difficult and understandable topics: running away from yourself, fear of mistakes, delayed life syndrome, shame, and how tired you are of everything. A cat can distract you from all this, and its company and smell can help you put it all on the top shelf until better times.

Sniff the cat is a track not only about anxiety. It’s about how life is great, it’s wonderful, and we actually have access to a smorgasbord where we can enjoy everything. But our anxieties and fears almost always spoil our taste for life.

One of the main messages of the song is also that we should not tolerate loneliness. We are not alone with our problems and troubles, we can support each other through our own prism of a set of concepts, beliefs, innovations, technologies and systems.

Listening to the upcoming hit Sniff the cat, it is impossible to stand still: the guitar and beat create a Latin mood. We can also hear a mystical ragatone with a depressive mood in the English lyrics, which changes back to a fiesta when a meeting with a miracle cat takes place.

The third verse of the song is based on the main salsa piano part with brass instruments that enhance the Latin, sunny mood. However, the beat and rap in Ukrainian create a rocking hip-hop beat.
