Knock on wood, Kaia Gerber has never fallen on the runway as a supermodel, and she has her famous mother, Cindy Crawford, to thank for that.
The 22-year-old made her late-night TV debut Monday on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where host Jimmy Fallon sought to get to know her a little bit more. They walked down memory lane for a bit — from her first acting job in community theater (The Wizard of Oz) to her first modeling job for Junior Versace at just 10 years old.
And in that spirit, Fallon wondered if her world-famous supermodel mom offered her any advice ahead of her first modeling gig, and Gerber told quite the story.
“She’s full of great advice. I remember right before I was going to do my first-ever fashion show, she sat me down and had my whole family gather around and played me compilation videos of models falling,” Gerber shared. “I think to be like, ‘This is the worst-case scenario.’ And I was like, ‘I didn’t even know you could fall this many different ways.’ But — knock on wood — I haven’t ever fallen. I think she scared me enough that I didn’t fall.”
While many have thought she made the transition from modeling to acting, it’s actually the other way around. Gerber shared that acting was her first love, calling herself “a total theater kid.”
When asked if she played the lead role of Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz, Gerber put her hilarious sense of humor on display.
“Tree No. 2,” Gerber answered. “And I was so disappointed because I wanted the role that every young girl dreams of having — obviously, Tree No. 1.”
Fallon laughed and said, “I keep thinking you’re going to say Dorothy!”
These days, everyone’s super proud of what Gerber’s accomplished in her young but already incredibly stellar career. And you can most definitely count on boyfriend Austin Butler to be among the proudest.
“It was legendary,” Butler told ET when asked about Gerber’s recent British Vogue cover. “It was amazing. I loved getting to see that. What an exciting cover. I loved it.”
That she’s one to seek out advice to improve her craft only speaks volumes of her drive to succeed in Hollywood. Gerber, who is starring in Apple TV+’s Palm Royale, recently spoke to ET about how she approached co-star Kristen Wiig for advice on how to prepare for her role in SNL 1975.
“Oh my gosh, I mean, the whole time we were shooting — I’ve always been a fan of SNL, so I would always in between takes be like, ‘Please, tell me all your stories,'” the actress told ET. “I’ve been a fan of Kristen’s. I think her work on that show was brilliant, so yeah, I mean she gave me some advice and I’m also just very excited to go back to the ’70s.”
