Jordan North has spoken out following his abrupt departure from BBC Radio 1’s drivetime show, in a message thanking his listeners and former colleagues.

Writing on social media on Saturday, North also mentioned his “partner in crime” Vick Hope, adding: “I’ll miss being on air with you every day.”

On Friday, Radio 1 announced that Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing would replace North on the drivetime show.

North did not give the reasons for his departure or where he would be going.

However, the Sun reports that he is joining the Capital FM Breakfast team, citing insiders.

BBC News has contacted North’s management, and Global, which owns Capital FM, for comment.

North had worked at Radio 1 for 10 years and is a much-loved presenter.

In his statement, North, 34, wrote: “I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all my wonderful colleagues / talented producers at Radio 1 who many I consider to be friends for life and will miss greatly.”

North also thanked his “amazing fellow presenters”, singling out names including Greg James, Scott Mills, Clara Amfo and Hope.

He added: “Most importantly, the biggest of thank yous to the fantastic listeners who have been really generous and always made me feel welcome, your kind words and messages have been so lovely.”

Hope said she was “absolutely gutted” over the departure of her “incredibly special friend”.

“I’ve loved being on this journey with you for a little bit, and will always support and cheer for you as you embark on the next chapter,” she posted on Instagram.

North has presented the drivetime show with Hope since 2021, having previously presented weekend shows like Greatest Hits on Sundays.

He also co-hosts the popular Help I Sexted My Boss podcast with William Hanson.

In 2020, he took part in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, finishing second.

Laing will host the Going Home show between 15:30-17:45 Monday to Thursdays alongside Hope.

He will take over from 4 March, having previously presented on the station during Mollie King’s maternity leave, describing it as “an absolute dream”.
