The world-famous Teatro Ariston, nestled in charming Liguria, is read to burst with joy. That’s as the 74th Festival di Sanremo unfolds next February with an expanded field of 30 participants. It’s a music event that’s set to light up an entire week, culminating on the 10th of February. Brace yourselves: Italy’s Sanremo is about to steal the spotlight once again.

As Amadeus gears up for his grand finale as the presenter and artistic director of Sanremo, he’s on a mission to sprinkle some extra magic this time. And he has absolutely nailed it so far! The excitement is real as Italy’s RAI has revealed the lineup of artists during an exclusive TG! announcement.

True to his word, Amadeus has unleashed what could be the most dazzling lineup in the entire history of Sanremo. Picture this: the crème de la crème of the Italian music scene, featuring past winners, chart-toppers with countless hits, and social media sensations with millions of adoring fans—all vying for the coveted Golden Lion and the golden ticket to Eurovision 2024.

But wait, there’s more! The anticipation reaches new heights as we eagerly await the three winners of Sanremo Giovani, set to be crowned on December 20. They’ll join this golden cast with brand-new songs, adding an extra layer of excitement to the already fantastic lineup.

Sanremo 2024: The 30 participating artists include…

  • Fiorella Mannoia
  • Geolier
  • Dargen d’Amico
  • Emma
  • Fred de Palma
  • Angelina Mango
  • La Sad
  • Diodato
  • Il Tre
  • Francesco Renga & Nek
  • Sangiovanni
  • Alfa
  • Il Volo
  • Alessandra Amoroso
  • Gazzell
  • Negramaro
  • Irama
  • Rose Villian
  • Mahmmod
  • Loredana Bertè
  • The Kolors
  • Big Mama
  • Ghali
  • Annalisa
  • Mr. Rain
  • Maninni
  • Ricchi e Poveri

Amongst the names above names are previous Eurovision participants: Emma (2014 – ‘La mia città’), Il Volo (2015 – ‘Grande Amore’), Diodato (2020 – ‘Fai Rumore’) and Mahmood (2019 – ‘Soldi’ & 2022 ‘Brividi’).

“Soldi” by Mahmood continues to reign supreme at the top of the music charts, with numerous Eurofans passionately arguing that he deserved to win in 2019. Undeterred, Mahmood made a triumphant return to the Eurovision stage in Turin 2022, his home country, with Blanco by his side, achieving 6th place. Yet, he’s not one to rest on his laurels, as Mahmood is back, setting his sights on winning Sanremo and possibly making another run at Eurovision. One thing is certain – he has already won our Eurovision hearts!

Who could forget that fantastic trio that stole our hearts back in 2015? Il Volo managed to clinch the televoting victory in the Eurovision Grand Final with their absolutely stunning ballad, “Grande Amore,” a performance that sent shivers down our spines. Well they are back and after their global tour they are planning their dynamic comeback with a song penned by well-known and esteemed creators such as Edwyn Roberts (known for collaborations with Laura Pausini, Diodato, Malika Ayane), Stefano Marletta (associated with Paola Turci, Chiara Galiazzo), Michael Tenisci (credited with works for Tiziano Ferro, Alessandra Amoroso), and  Erensto Ginoble, the brother of Gianluca.

Angelina Mango, a young pop queen who is coming from a music family, has a huge fan base in Italy. In November 2022, Mango was admitted as a competitor to the twenty-second edition of the musical talent show broadcast on Canale 5, Amici di Maria De Filippi, in which she finished in second place and won the singing category.

Among the groups, we find The Kolors a pop-rock band,  with a previous  participation in Sanremo in 2018. And, of course, we can’t overlook Alessandra Amoroso, the Italian pop sensation known from the reality competition TV show Amici di Maria de Filippi. With a string of successful albums and consistent chart-topping achievements, Amoroso has become a prominent figure in the world of Italian pop music and is ready to compete in the San Remo fighting arena.

Sanremo 2024: Schedule and voting method

First Night – Tuesday, 6th February 2024

Prepare your ears for the grand unveiling of 30 sensational songs! The fate of the performers lies in the hands of the press, TV, and web jury. There’s no elimination on this day.

Second Night – Wednesday, 7th February 2024

The top 15 songs from the previous night get another chance to shine. This time, it’s a dual voting affair: 50% televoting and 50% radio jury. The stakes are high, but fear not – no acts will bid farewell just yet.

Third Night – Thursday, 8th February 2024

The spotlight now shifts to the remaining 15 songs. Once again, it’s a dual voting extravaganza: 50% televoting and 50% radio jury. Tensions rise, but rest assured, there are no goodbyes yet.

Fourth Night – Friday, 9th February 2024 – Cover Day

A twist awaits as the 30 acts will perform cover version of any song they’d like. Alongside guest acts of their choice, the stage transforms into a musical wonderland. The results? A threesome voting feast: 34% televoting, 33% press, TV, and web jury, and 33% radio jury. No eliminations at this point.

Fifth Night – Saturday, 10th February 2024

The final crescendo! All 30 songs echo once more, and this time, it’s the audience’s turn to take the reins with 100% televoting. Brace yourselves for the results as the curtain falls on the main event.
But wait, there’s more! The sum of all results from the five days will unveil the top 5 acts, who will either perform their original entries again or treat us to a nostalgic recap. The ultimate winner will be determined by a threesome voting showdown: 34% televoting, 33% press, TV, and web jury, and 33% radio jury. Drumroll, please!

From Sanremo 2024 to Eurovision in Malmö

The excitement for us doesn’t end with Sanremo! Any of the 30 acts interested in Eurovision 2024 will say so on a special form. The winning act of Sanremo 2024 will have the right of first refusal for Eurovision 2024. If they decline the Eurovision adventure, the organizing committee will wield its magic wand and select the Eurovision representative based on their own criteria.
So, mark your calendars and get ready to be swept away by the melodies, the elegance and the joy of Sanremo 2024. It’s not just a festival; it’s a celebration of music, laughter, and the unforgettable moments that make Sanremo the magical place it is. Let the countdown to this musical fiesta begin!
