Dotter: My Melodifestivalen 2024 song is “from the world of Bulletproof but still totally new”

Posted on 2 December 2023 By Admin No Comments on Dotter: My Melodifestivalen 2024 song is “from the world of Bulletproof but still totally new”

She’s a favourite of Melodifestivalen fans both inside and outside of Sweden, having narrowly missed out on the crown in 2020 — losing to the Mamas by just one point with her song “Bulletproof.”

And now Dotter, real name Johanna Jansson, is entering the contest for a fourth time with the song “It’s Hard to Write You a Love Song.”

Wiwiblogger Tobias saddled up to the 2020 runner-up to find out what her entry is all about.

“It’s about, like, the true story behind a love song,” she says. “Like how it really is to be in a relationship with someone. You’re not — how to explain it? — you don’t only show the good side of it. You’re more into how it really is. Even if you love someone really, really deep — sometimes it can be hard to write a song to that person because it’s not always super good. And that’s how it is. It doesn’t mean it’s a bad relationship. It’s just how a relationship is.”

So is it based on personal experience?

“I believe that everyone can relate to this, so yeah.”

Tobias tried to find out what genre the song occupies. Fans of “Bulletproof” will be very happy.

“It’s more in the world of Bulletproof, but still it’s something totally new. But they are related in some way.”

She says the song is, in a way, taking her back to her roots through its “organic sound.”

Dotter can’t reveal too much about her staging, but says she’s given it a lot of thought. “I’ve had a vision since I wrote the song, for one year or more I’ve had this vision about what I want to do on stage. That’s actually why I wanted to compete with it ’cause I had this clear vision and it’s so much fun to do it on this kind of show.”

Dotter can’t describe the song in one word, so she gave us three: “bombastic, dramatic, dynamic.”
