She’s the 16-year-old star born Down Under who is ready to rise for Cyprus at Eurovision 2024. And as Silia Kapsis prepares to burn the biggest stage of her career in Malmö, she’s made it clear she has no fear.
“I’m not afraid, I love what I do, I believe in myself,” she said in her first interview since being announced as the Cypriot act. “I have the adrenaline that I believe will help me on stage and will give me the energy.”
Silia — real name Vasiliki Kapsis — was speaking to Andreas Anastasiou, the head of press for Cyprus at Eurovision during an appearance on “Beautiful Morning.”
Silia Kapsis gives first Eurovision interview
Born in Sydney to a Cypriot singer dad and a Greek lawyer mom, she’s got talent in her genes. Her mom is a former dancer and, if you’ve watched any of Silia’s videos, then you’ll know she inherited the ability to pop and lock. In the interview she said she’s warming up her “dance moves on stage.” We assume that means a bop is incoming…
“Every day I think about how I’m going to be on the Eurovision stage, I can’t wait! It’s going to be fantastic… I’m going to do a lot of vocal exercises, I’m going to warm up my voice, I’m going to warm up for my dance moves on stage.”
Silia releases “Night Out”
You’re going to have to wait until November 5 for the music video. But the audio for Silia’s fourth single “Night Out” is available now.
The song captures the power of love at first sight, when a stranger stops you in your tracks and takes you to “a new dimension.” She sings to the object of her affection and advises them to stay in the moment.
“Don’t think about tomorrow, it’s all about tonight,” she sings. “When you see me falling you can hold me tight…”
Speaking to Australian web site AussieVision, Silia said:
“I’m really inspired by R&B music, so I had a specific R&B/POP style for ‘Night Out’ in my head. I got to the recording studio and I said to my producer, ‘this is where we are going with this one… Together, we went through some soulful melodies/chords, cool beats that resonated with me. We then just started writing the lyrics to the song.’”
“Regarding the story, I had this idea, I wanted it to be a sweet teenage love story, a sweet connection, a song about innocent teenage love. I pictured it in my head, me hanging out with my girlfriends and expectantly the boy comes along and pretty much changes my direction.”
