Eurovision is coming to Malmö in 2024. And now Swedish broadcaster SVT is pouring through a total of 2,624 entries that have been submitted for Melodifestivalen 2024, its national selection for Eurovision.
That’s 200 fewer than the the 2,824 song submissions they received for Melodifestivalen 2023, but more than the 2,530 entries they received in 2022.
No matter. It’s a lot of songs and interest is clearly high.
“The intensive work of the selection process begins now,” says Karin Gunnarsson, competition producer.
She ain’t here to play.
“The goal is to produce a hit, and a lovely and engaging line-up. It is extra fun that one of the entries will get to represent Sweden here at home in the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.”
Melodifestivalen 2024: Producers receive 2,624 song submissions
As you know, this year’s Melodifestivalen will have a total of 30 competing entries rather than 28. And they’ll compete across five heats rather than four heats and a “save me” semi-final.
Karin Gunnarsson will now choose half of this year’s line-up with the assistance of a jury group.
According to the official Melodifestivalen Instagram account: “The other 15 are selected by SVT during the autumn.”
